Lisbon Agreement

Lisbon Agreement

The aim of the Agreement is to ensure the protection of appellations of origin by the registration of the International Bureau of WIPO. The Agreement defines the appellation of origin as follows: the "geographical name of a country, region, or locality, which serves to designate a product originating therein, the quality and characteristics of which are due exclusively or essentially to the geographic environment, including natural and human factors". Up to April 2007, 26 states joined the Agreement, among others Hungary.
